. . . Rape!

On my way to my place of work today, while I was listening to the news on the radio, I heard a VERY disturbing story about an undergraduate in Abia State University (ABSU) who was raped by a gang of 5 boys (also undergraduates in the same ABSU). I was even more angry when I heard that this ugly incident occurred ONE MONTH AGO!!! What?! In the course of discussing this issue, Hubby and I agreed that the rapists should not be spared as soon as they are fished out!

While I was blog surfing, I read about this rape issue on Naijalines, and subsequently on Linda Ikeji's blog. My ANGER can only be imagined! I was so ANGRY!! I was so ANGRY that I said "if I were that girl, I would personally KILL those boys (ANIMALS). WHAT??? These boys are NOT worthy of been classified as humans.

I do not care whatever prompted the bestial act! NO HUMAN BEING DESERVES TO BE TREATED IN SUCH A WAY! These so called rapists are sons to a WOMAN! They are brothers to some SISTERS! They are Uncles to some NIECES! To think that every rapist out there is a "potential" father is even more worrisome! What example would such a person pass on to his lineage?

I think it is about time that EVERYONE joins this fight against rape! The sooner our society change its orientation and views about rape, the better for all of us. Imagine a rape victim who ran to the "police" to make a report and the STUPID police officer asks "wetin you do wey make am rape you" (what did you do to make him rape you?) How can such a girl feel protected by the police??

I was told of a rape victim who ran to the student union of her institution for refuge. When the student union officials stepped into the matter, the rapists were beaten so badly and thereafter handed over to the school senate. After investigation, the boys were EXPELLED from the school and handed over to the police. Believe it or not, I was further informed that the rapists begged the victim who was now "feeling sorry" for the rapists!! Can you beat that?

In the instant case, the school even had the boldness to say the victim and the so called rapists are not students in the school? This is very disheartening to say the least!

If rapists are not adequately punished, they would go about committing this crime with the "assurance" that nothing would happen to them. If this crime continues unchecked, it could happen to someone we know.

I am a Mother. I am a Sister. I am an Aunty. I have loads of female relatives. The question I am asking myself now is - "how would I feel if this sort of thing were to happen to a relation?"

LET'S SPEAK OUT AGAINST RAPE AND INJUSTICE!

Olisa the "Beater" of Beats 99.9 FM

I just read a post that INFURIATED me to the bones!

During my web surfing some minutes ago, I saw a post that accused Olisa Adibua of brutally battering a junior colleague. That post directed me to Linda Ikeji's Blog where I read the full story.

Olisa Adibua, of Beats 99.9 FM/Naija 102.7 FM, beat one Adewunmi Oyekanmi, the night news editor at Naija FM to the point that his face was disfigured!

Olisa the "Beater" of Beats FM

The crime Adewunmi committed was "sleeping on the couch". Abeg, even if this guy had been warned to stay of that couch, I do not think, he should have received such treatment! Haba! This is too much ke! And to think that Olisa was suspended for just FOUR WEEKS!

Such a "beater" or "batterer" should not be associated with "decent" organisations or people!

Excerpt from Linda's Blog:
The incident, which some people are trying to cover up, occurred early Thursday morning, Sept 8, 2011.
Here's what happened - from an inside source. Olisa Adibua, who is the Programmes Director for Beat 99.9 Fm and Naija FM and an OAP on Beat 99.9 Fm (Morning Rush - every morning Monday - Friday), came back to the office from the industry night event which he attended, found Adewunmi Oyekanmi, who is the night news editor at Naija Fm, sleeping on the couch and attacked him.
The young university undergraduate decided to catch some rest after doing his duties as a night news editor. Prior to the incident he had been warned by Olisa not to sleep on the couch in the office, and on this fateful early morning, he decided to catch a few winks. According to Dewunmi, he was woken by a heavy object hitting his head.
Opening his eyes, he saw Olisa raining blows on him, kicking him and even smashed his phone on the ground, trampling it with his heel. Olisa also ripped his shirt off his body and kicked him off the premises of the office by 3am in the morning. Dewunmi was at the security post when members of staff resumed at dawn.

And guess what Olisa's punishment was for the assault? Four weeks suspension. But then he was back hosting the Beat Fm Party which held just yesterday.
There is no way in hell you will physically assault and brutally beat up someone like this and get away with it. No way! Please continue reading...
Like I said they are trying to cover this up, Dewunmi wasn't allowed to didn't go to the police to report the incident or talk to the press (to save the image of the company), and he's already back at work. But you can't do this to someone and get away with it. This is the kind of battery and assault that cost Chris Brown a lot, unfortunately for us in Nigeria, some people actually get away with things like this...but it's time for us to start speaking up!
I hope someone does something about this. You shouldn't lay hands on a colleague or staff and get away with it. Workers are not being protected at work place and a lot of them keep quiet when things like this happen for fear of losing their jobs if they go public.
Is there like a government agency that takes up cases like this?
If this is TRUE, then Olisa needs to attend a session on "ANGER MANAGEMENT"!

Update: Thanks to LDP, I just read the official statement/apology published on Bella Naija.

Little Dee Goes to School!

Yes o!

Today marks the beginning of another phase in my baby's life! Little Dee started her educational pursuit today 12/09/2011.

She was SO excited as she got ready for School. When we dropped her off at school, the excitement had dwindled. After the initial protocols, I followed her to her class. While her siblings were giving her a tour of her class, I was busy taking pictures! All I kept saying was "my baby is in school..."

Well when I get home I will hear all the gists.

Jonah Jang - Crisis in Jos!

Over 50 people have been reported dead in the fresh crisis in Jos, Plateau State.

I am really disturbed! Why are we killing ourselves? What has happened to the phrase "love your neighbour as yourself"? LOVE is the key word here.

In all this wahala, I hear that the Governor, Mr. Jonah Jang is NOT in the Country!! Can you imagine? Well I want to believe that is not true...

During the Obasanjo regime, when a similar crisis was reported, a State of emergency was declared. What is the current President, Mr. Jonathan, waiting for?

Similarly, members of the notorious Islamic sect, otherwise known as BOKO HARAM, have been causing havoc to the Nation. The dastardly way they (Bokos) have been detonating explosives should be a cause of concern to ALL Nigerians!

Enough is enough o!

May the Peace of Almighty God flood this Nation! God bless Nigeria!
