Justice for Sylvester Oromoni!

What is bullying?

Wikipedia states that Bullying is the use of force, coercion, hurtful teasing or threat, to abuse, aggressively dominate or intimidate. The behavior is often repeated and habitual. Bullying is the activity of repeated, aggressive behavior intended to hurt another individual, physically, mentally, or emotionally

A bully is therefore anyone who use force, coercion, hurtful teasing or threat, to abuse, aggressively dominate or intimidate another.

Bullying comes in so many other forms. Not only amongst students. Teachers also bully students.

Some days ago, someone shared a post on a WhatsApp Group. The post was the story of of a 12 years old boy, Sylvester Oromoni, who was bullied and tortured by some senior students in Dowen College. Sylvester eventually died. He was beaten and "locked up in a wardrobe for 2 days". He was forced to ingest a liquid substance. His lips were swollen and "cracked". The child was in severe pains. His parents were called to come "take their child for treatment outside". The school management told the parents that their son had a fall while playing football!

The whole story is so SAD! I saw some disturbing images relating to the horrible story. How can the parents be consoled? How?! The stories on this ugly event got me worried. The denial by the school management was very lame and repulsive!

That school, Dowen College is one of the so called "top school" in Nigeria.

The welcome message on the school website read thus:

"At Dowen College Lagos, the students are our focus. Everything we do is centered on our students. Our desire is to produce balanced global leaders. Every decision made seeks to enhance the value added to the life of each student at Dowen College Lagos because we believe in the total development of the students morally, mentally and physically. Our way of life is encompassed in what we term “the A B C D of Dowen College."

If the students are truly the focus of the school as stated above, how did the Management not know? How can the teachers be blinded to the tortures students face in hostels?! Where was the House master when the boy was being beaten?

How can the school ever desire to produce "balanced global leaders" when they cover up for the wrong acts perpetrated within the walls of the school?

What value was added to the life of the deceased student when the school decided to hide the truth from the parents when the parents were told that their child sustained the injury during a football game?

Sylvester Oromoni was tortured and eventually died as a result of the gruesome torture by some senior students in Dowen College, Lekki Lagos. News have it that the suspects have been flown out of the Country by their parents. . .  The Law of Karma is not a respecter of jurisdiction. Wherever they are, justice will prevail.

Sylvester's death is one too many!

Parents, these bullies are from homes. Whether the child is a bully or not, it ALL STARTS FROM THE HOME. Let us train our children well. Don't encourage wrong acts in any form. Live by example. Talk to your children. Listen to your children. Teach your children good morals.

Which is your wedding finger?

I have always wondered why married people wear the wedding rings/wedding bands on their fourth finger. Why can't I wear my wedding band on my thumb or on any other finger? Why is the wedding ring worn on the fourth finger? Why? Why?

Well this mail I received recently suggested an answer to my questions.

The thumb represents your Parents.

The second (Index) finger represents your Siblings.

The middle finger represents your-Self.

The fourth (Ring) finger represents your Life Partner.

The Last (Little) finger represents your Children.

Now do this:

(1) Firstly, open your palms (face to face), bend the middle fingers and hold them together - back to back.

(2) Secondly, open and hold the remaining three fingers and the thumb - tip to tip shown below:

(3) Now, try to separate your thumbs (representing the parents) . . . they will open, because your parents are not destined to live with you lifelong, and have to leave you sooner or later.

(4) Please join your thumbs as before and separate your Index fingers (representing siblings). . . they will also open, because your brothers and sisters will have their own families and will have to lead their own separate lives.

(5) Now join the Index fingers and separate your Little fingers (representing your children). . . they will open too, because the children also will get married and settle down on their own some day.

(6) Finally, join your Little fingers, and try to separate your Ring fingers (representing your spouse). You will be surprised to see that you just CANNOT...

The reason is this - God Almighty, the author of marriage, said Husbands and Wives were made to remain together all their lives - through thick and thin!!

Isn't this a lovely theory?

Peaceful Protest

This evening, on Admiralty Way, I encountered a group of protesters demanding that the Federal Government puts an end to SARS NOW! #EndSARS

The protesters ensured there was no movement by "blocking" the road. They threatened that the protest will continue until the Government #EndSARSNow

To show how serious the movement is, notable Nigerian celebrities have joined their voices to demand the end of SARS! The movement has gained international attention and the whole world is focused on Nigeria.

In a recent development, the President, Mohammedu Buhari has ordered the "IGP to conclusively address the concerns of Nigerians regarding these excesses, & ensure erring personnel are brought to justice.” Act now and ensure the police cease to harass citizens.

I pray that the Government representatives do what is right and make sure this protest does not escalate and cause more problems for the Country. Otherwise, we will start clamouring for other things to end as well.

Adieu Majek Fashek

As I got ready to step out of the house for work yesterday, I noticed "the sky looked misty and cloudy." I decided to dash out immediately before the rain starts pouring. Of course, I imagined what the traffic would be like, especially with such a weather. So I had to rush out even with the misty and cloudy weather. About 20 minutes later, the rain started...

During the drive to work, I tuned the radio to listen to various news items and some analytical reviews of the news items. That has been a tradition. When I heard the OAP on radio say "rest in peace Majek. . ." I was shocked. . . What?! O my God!

What came to my mind immediately was the fact that the news of his passing came at a time it was raining HEAVILY (at least in Lagos). What a rare coincidence, to hear the demise of the legendary rain maker on a rainy day! WOW!

Adieu Majek! May the soul of Majek Fashek rest in peace! Amen.
